Want to hear some bullshit? My camera broke yesterday.

Against my own will, I did the research and purchased a new one. (My family collective overruled me when I didn’t want to spend the money. I’m pretty sure they deemed me cranky with a high rate of pressure and frustration… since I literally take photos daily. I can understand that $400 vs. cranky mom is a no-brainer. But I’m still fucking mad about it.)

When I explained to the Universe that I wanted to get control of my photos and remain in present time (keep up with downloading and backing them up weekly) and create a fresh start of routines to handle them, this is not what I meant.

I guess the only way to get the message is to create an entire system to handle and organize photos in a timely way… upon arrival of the camera. Sigh.

Because I had to take today’s photo with my iPad, I’ll have to do some extra steps to get today’s photo of the Levenger daily card onto the site. I will most assuredly need Angel’s help.

Today’s Topic: Time Management

I’ve been trying for some time to gain and maintain control of my day. As I was reading through the last two days of initial posts, an extreme thought pierced through my attention:

Time management is bullshit. Time doesn’t give a fuck if you want it to go slower, or speed up. It has a complete disregard for you, what you think, and what you want.

Really, the only things we can “manage” are our actions. How we utilize time is the only thing we can control. So, really, I’ve been trying to control time for almost 47 years, but what I really need to manage are my actions and the actions of anything/anyone in my sphere of influence.

With that said, we’ll need to define and clarify a few concepts. I’m using the following words to align our understanding so we can understand each other: routines, transitions, and segments. I will take some time over the next few days to attempt definitions on what I mean by them and how they fit together in the vision of what I’m trying to create.

It’s an entirely new gameboard. And, please be warned, I fully intend to win.

My Beginning

routine: a set or series of actions that completes prerequisite actions in an area

transition: the period of time that routines get completed so you can clear your mind and do focus work

time block: a chunk of time labeled with an area of life or clear intention

segment: the pieces that time blocks are made of

I’m interested to see how these will change over the next few weeks as I talk to my family about them. I think the productivity industry uses words that confuse us on purpose to keep us buying those self-help books.

Penny for Your Thoughts?

To be clear, I value your point of view at a rate much higher than one cent. I went with it because I think it’s cute. Moving on…

What word do you just not get when it comes to productivity, time management, or personal management?

I’m sure I could fill a notebook page. I look forward to resolving this issue so we can all be on the same page!
